Somewhere Over the Rainbow II

2021, video 06:00, painting, mixed media

The exhibition is a continuation of a solo project bearing the same title. Its unifying theme is the “breaking of the fourth wall” through the amplification of the artworks’ technical structures and the demystification of art as an exhibition object. Sculptural and painterly works, alongside readymade objects, mimic natural elements and artificially constructed environments. Together, they call into question the accuracy of our perception of the world, suggesting that we are exposed only to conventions and visual languages that merely describe its characteristics rather than reveal reality itself. The video work included in the exhibition functions as a visual letter to the artist’s future self. It was created during the first months of the global pandemic, against the backdrop of the ongoing climate crisis. The visuals depict an unimaginable environment in which the physical world has been replaced by fragmented digital imagery marked by glitches and distortions, interwoven with fantasies and memories of what the world could have been. The narrative presents simple reflections on everyday presence that, through their very inattentiveness, are overshadowed by a deepening sense of an approaching end of the world.
